About the role
As a peer support worker, you will draw on your lived experience and understanding of mental health to deliver group activities and programs that support individuals living with mental illness, using a compassionate, person-centred approach.
In your role as a peer support worker, you will use your personal journey of mental health recovery to inspire optimism and empower others. By offering trauma-informed support, you will create a safe space where lived experience is recognised as a vital foundation for healing and connection.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- providing empathetic, person-centred support to individuals living with mental health challenges
- enhancing access to mental health services and improving health outcomes across the region, with a focus on equity and inclusion
- building and maintaining collaborative relationships with community members and key stakeholders
- reducing reliance on acute and intensive mental health services by supporting early intervention and recovery strategies
- contributing to the development and delivery of recovery-oriented group programs grounded in lived experience
- facilitating group-based activities that promote connection, skill-building, and mental wellbeing

About you
To be considered for this rewarding role you will have:
- highly developed person-centred communication skills
- excellent communication skills
- ability to work under minimal supervision with the capacity to exercise initiative in the application of work processes and procedures and establish objectives and outcomes
- a demonstrated ability to show empathy and compassion
- positive, can-do attitude
Role Requirements
- certificate IV in Mental health or equivalent (desirable)
- lived experience with mental health recovery
- current nationally recognised first aid and CPR certificates (or the ability to obtain)
- a Positive Notice Working with Children (blue card) (or the ability to obtain)
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain)
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module "Quality, Safety & You" completion certificate (or the ability to obtain)
- a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence
- roadworthy vehicle with comprehensive insurance
