The opportunity

Reporting to the Contracts Manager – Major Projects, this role will manage and oversee contractual activities to meet PLS’ Project requirements. Working closely with various departments and external vendors to execute contract strategies, undertake tendering, negotiate contracts and monitor contractor performance.

As a Senior Contracts Specialist, you will support the successful delivery of a major PLS project by providing effective contract and commercial management across all phases of the contract lifecycle, ensuring compliance, cost control, and value optimisation.

This is a permanent full-time role based at our West Perth office, conveniently located near the City West train station.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the end‑to‑end contract lifecycle, from tender preparation and evaluation through to contract administration, claims management, and contract close‑out.
  • Lead and support sourcing and tendering activities, including preparation and issue of tenders, proposals and requests for quotation, coordination of bid evaluations, and development of clear, robust commercial recommendations for award.
  • Negotiate contracts and commercial agreements with contractors and suppliers to achieve favourable commercial outcomes, including pricing, risk allocation, delivery schedules, and service levels.
  • Manage and administer contracts in accordance with contractual terms ensuring compliance with PLS policies, procedures and legal requirements
  • Development and implementation of effective contract strategies aligned with project objectives, cost efficiency, and governance requirements.
  • Manage all contract correspondence and records, including drafting, reviewing, assessing and negotiating contract variations and claims, including Extensions of Time (EOTs).
  • Provide proactive commercial and contractual support to Package Managers, Project Managers, and the broader Project team throughout project execution.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and manage commercial risk across the project.
  • Support project cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting, working closely with project controls and finance teams to ensure cost and schedule targets are achieved.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with contractors and key stakeholders, monitor contractor performance, and participate in regular performance reviews to drive safety, quality, cost, and delivery outcomes.

 

About you

  • Minimum 7 years experience in a similar role, on a project or within the resources sector
  • Extensive experience in contracts, commercial department or similar, ideally within a major project environment
  • Qualified in quantity surveying, Contracts and procurement, law or business-related discipline.
  • An understanding of Contract law and general law
