The opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Advisor Occupational Health and Hygiene, the Technician Health and Hygiene is responsible in execution of health and hygiene programs onsite, including but not limited to airborne contaminants, noise, and potable water, to ensure that occupational health and hygiene risks are managed. The Occupational Hygiene Technician will also participate in health and hygiene-based risk assessment workshops with site teams, providing technical advice and education on health hazards and controls.  Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring audit compliance in the field and performing the duties of Mine Air Quality Officer and Noise Officer as per WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022.

This is a permanent full-time role which operates on a 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.

Key responsibilities

  • Execute the site personal exposure monitoring program for health hazards, focusing in inhalable dust, respirable dust, Naturally Occurring Asbestos, welding fumes, noise, and blast fumes.
  • Recording health and hygiene data and completing verification and analysis of data (Cority management system)
  • Complete potable water sampling and testing in compliance with the site monitoring schedule reporting into Preserve.
  • Conduct regular inspections and assessments across site as per schedule to identify potential Attend and present at prestart’s and toolboxes to provide accurate updates and information to the workforce for health and hygiene matters.
  • Complete onsite analysis testing and ensuring equipment is maintained and calibrated.
  • Facilitate hygiene exceedance investigations for occupational exceedances
  • occupational health hazards and take appropriate action.
  • Complete investigative and basic hygiene surveys including noise surveys
  • Collect and analyse occupational hygiene data and report findings to senior Health and Hygiene advisor.
  • Participate in health and hygiene-based risk assessment workshops, on health hazards and controls.
  • Support the development and implementation of health and hygiene programs and processes.
  • Assist in developing and delivering training programs related to health and hygiene matters.
  • Complete task-based risk assessments and participate in relevant risk assessment workshops.
  • Ensure hazards and incidents are assessed, controlled and reported in INX.
  • Complete Critical Control verification through Forwood to drive alignment, compliance, and verification activities.
  • Complete Critical Control Effectiveness Testing (e.g. ventilation systems, noise enclosures,) and provide the results to the critical control owners.

Additional Duties

  • Support with completing radiation monitoring in compliance with the site radiation management plan, under the direction by the site radiation officer as required by the senior health and hygiene advisor
  • Support with conduct respiratory and hearing personal protective equipment (PPE) fit-testing programs as required by the senior health and hygiene advisor
  • support the duties as the Mine Air Quality Officer and Noise Officer as per WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 when required. Maintaining qualification components

H&STeam

  • Collaborate with team members and other departmental stakeholders to align health and hygiene activities with the organisation’s overall objectives.
  • Provide opportunities to enable guidance, feedback mentorship, training to facilitate professional growth and development both in office and infield with H&S members.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationship with mining health and hygiene providers.

About you

  • Knowledge of WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 and related legislation.
  • Driver’s license (preferably manual).
  • Mines air quality technician
  • Noise officer
  • DMIRS Registered Sampler and approved Noise Officer
  • Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ Experience in occupational hygiene monitoring and assessment (any industry). 
  • Knowledge of statutory safety requirements relevant to the processes.
  • High level of computer literacy and skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to safety and the environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
