Job Summary

Information Commons Leads at Gateway Community and Technical College, provide complex administrative support and dissemination of information to students, staff, faculty and the community and are an integral part of Gateway Community and Technical College’s student retention and success initiatives. Information Commons leaders foster a collaborative, inclusive, and student-centered environment, while organizing and facilitating the day-to-day operations of the Information Commons desk. This position will fill the same roles listed above from the full-time Lead position but on a part time basis.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as first point of contact while also providing excellent customer service, sharing accurate information with students, staff, faculty and the community.
  • Connecting students and the community to appropriate departments, programs and resources
  • Documenting service provided to the Gateway community by correctly completing Information Commons tickets
  • Mentoring, training, and guiding Information Commons work study students.
  • Collaborating with Information Commons staff and students to keep the desk area organized and uncluttered, maintaining a comfortable and safe working environment.
  • Scheduling personnel to cover the desk during hours of operation and completing secondary tasks as assigned by department heads.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS diploma/GED
  • Indicate the minimum combination of education and experience that is needed by the employee to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job. This should be viewed as the minimum qualifications and not what may be preferred or desired.
  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment and external business and community partners, representing himself/herself professionally and courteously.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Word).
  • Knowledge of Higher Education and Advising is an asset.
  • Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
  • High attention to detail, independent, self-motivated, adaptable to fast-paced environments.
  • Professional and courteous communication at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Clear verbal and written skills.
  • Efficiently prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years experience in and understanding with students from diverse populations.
  • Experience working at the community college level.
