Job Summary

Gateway is currently seeking an adjunct instructor to teach COM 181, Basic Public Speaking for the Fall 2025 semester. The class will meet in-person on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:45PM at the Boone campus in Florence, KY. This is a 16-week hybrid course that runs from 8/18/25-12/14/25.

Job Duties:

  • Provide instruction and familiarize students within the specific areas of study.
  • Provide instruction to students in both theory and practice in their respective field(s).
  • Maintenance and care of classrooms, labs & training materials will also be expected.
  • Keep abreast of changes in their field and help keep the programs updated.
  • Technical positions provide students with the background, knowledge, and basic skills needed to function effectively on the job.
  • Preferred candidates would be able to teach at various levels to help support their programs. Candidates should be energetic, enthusiastic, and have an in-depth understanding of the principles in their discipline or field.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and at least 18 graduate hours in Communication from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Passion to provide the highest quality educational environment for all our students.
  • Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment and external business and community partners, representing himself/herself professionally and courteously.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Word).

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of graduate-level coursework in the History of Kentucky is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
