Job Summary

The Office of Student Support and Advocacy at Jefferson Community and Technical College (Jefferson) has an opening for a Director of Student Support Services under the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Project Grant. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide administrative leadership, oversee program operations, and ensure compliance with the federally funded SSS program.

Job Duties:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Manage the SSS student selection process and document eligibility.
• Assess students.
• Coordinate orienting SSS students to the program.
• Assign students to an SSS Coordinator.
• Supervise SSS Coordinators and the Administrative Support team.
• Provide direct student support services as part of the SSS team to ensure 140 students receive high quality one-on-one coaching.
• Manage program budget.
• Serve as primary contact with the SSS Advisory Council.
• Manage internal and external partnerships.
• Lead Continuous Quality Improvement processes.
• Identify and approve appropriate Professional Development for the SSS team.
• Ensure the SSS Coordinators have completed all Jefferson-required training and complete academic advisor training within 60 days of employment.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Other duties as required to support a focus on student success.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidate will have strong interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and problem-solving skills. Must be able to multitask and think independently.

Grant Funded Position:

  •  Final approval for appointment of the SSS Director is contingent upon review and approval of the candidate's qualifications and resume by the designated Federal Project Officer at the Department of Education.
  • Continuing employment is contingent upon the receipt of grant funding for the next fiscal year.
  • The SSS Director is responsible for programmatic and financial reporting, in consultation with the Office of Grant & Contracts.
  • Travel is required on a limited basis. Annual attendance at national and state-level meetings will be required.
  • The SSS Director is responsible for spearheading the next TRIO SSS application in the 5-year funding cycle, in consultation with the Office of Grants & Contracts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in education, administration, guidance, or counseling required. A bachelor’s degree in education, administration, guidance, or counseling may be substituted with appropriate and relevant professional or personal experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience working with the target population.
• Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience with community engagement. 

Although the degrees listed as required qualifications are shown on the project narrative (education, administration, guidance, or counseling), we can accept related degrees or other degrees in combination with the candidate's experience. We are not restricted to the listed degree majors.

Required Management/Training:
• Experience managing internal and external partnerships within a large organization.
• Experience managing program budgets.
• Experience supervising staff and student workers.
• Experience gathering and analyzing data related to academic needs, interests, education, and social background of students.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of SSS-eligible students at Jefferson.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Personal experience with homelessness, food insecurity, poverty, caregiving while working/going to school, or other barriers experienced by SSS-eligible students.
• Minimum of three (3) years of appropriate and relevant professional experience designing, managing, or implementing TRIO or similar programs.
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in academic and career planning.
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and experience with PeopleSoft or other student information systems is preferred. Candidates with higher education backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
