Job Summary

The Office of Student Support and Advocacy at Jefferson Community and Technical College (Jefferson) has an opening for a Coordinator of Student Support Services under the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Project Grant. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist students with removing academic and non-academic barriers and coordinate program activities towards their academic success while remaining in compliance with the federally funded SSS program.

Job Duties:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide direct student support services as part of the SSS team to ensure 140 students receive high quality one-on-one coaching.
• Assess students for academic, financial, and other needs.
• Problem-solve with SSS students and connect them to support services at Jefferson and in the community.
• Coordinate and present programs and seminars on topics such as career readiness, financial literacy, and time management.
• Provide academic advising and transfer coaching with each SSS student in their caseload.
• Monitor Starfish (early alert system) for notifications related to their advisees.
• Consult with faculty and other campus partners in support of SSS students.
• Maintain accurate information on student assessments, interactions, and support provided.
• Complete Jefferson-required Academic Advisor training within 60 days of employment and participate in ongoing advisor training as well as other internal and external professional development opportunities.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Other duties as required to support a focus on student success.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidate will have strong interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and problem-solving skills. Must be able to multitask and think independently.

Grant Funded Position:

  • Continuing employment is contingent upon the receipt of grant funding for the next fiscal year.
  • Travel may be required on a limited basis. Attendance at national and state-level meetings may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, guidance, or counseling required.  Related fields may be considered when accompanied by relevant professional experience
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience working with a TRIO program or program with a similar target population.
• Experience with community engagement.

Although the degrees listed in the required qualifications are shown on the project narrative (education, administration, guidance, or counseling), we can accept related degrees or other degrees in combination with the candidate's experience. We are not restricted to the listed degree majors.


Required Management/Training:
• Experience or academic coursework in providing academic, job, and transfer coaching.
• Upon hire, must complete Jefferson’s Academic Advising training within 60 days of employment.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Personal experience with homelessness, food insecurity, poverty, caregiving while working/going to school, or other barriers experienced by SSS-eligible students.

Preferred Skills and Attributes:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and experience with PeopleSoft or other student information systems is preferred. Candidates with higher education backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
