Job Duties

Norfolk State University’s (NSU) Department of Facilities Management provides a campus environment that is conducive to working and learning through systematic maintenance, repair, and renovation and construction of campus buildings, facilities, and infrastructure.

Norfolk State University (NSU) Facilities Management department seeks candidates for the position of Electrician Technician III.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

1. Inspects and test electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and
equipment.
2. Change bulbs when needed.
3. Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment, using suitable
testing instruments.
4. Use of appropriate electrical testing meters to test circuits and verify power.
5. Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances to ensure proper operation per trade practice.
6. Ensures all work performed meets required safety codes Effectively problem solves and trouble shoots.
7. Ability to use ladders in the installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of electrical systems.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Work requires knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Significant demonstrated knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and components.
3. Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Journeyman Electrician License.
2. Experience operating and maintaining audio equipment.
3. Experience operating a Bucket truck and various types of lifts.
