Job Duties

The Department addresses the professional development need of both pre-service and in-service practitioners. The objective is to provide students with broad based learning experiences that engender the dispositions and habitudes of excellence, equity, and most importantly, leadership in Virginia’s P-12 schools and classrooms.

Adjunct faculty will be expected to:

1. Teach graduate courses in school and/or mental health counseling.

2. Advise students as required; participate in scholarly activities and participate in university and program development.

3. Possess the potential for leadership in the department and contribute to developing curricula in counseling.

4. Hold office hours as designated by the University for adjunct faculty and meet with the Department Chair for delineated departmental meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Selected candidate will have a Doctorate degree in Counselor Education and Supervision or relevant discipline.

2. Possess the credential of Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), K-12 Professional School Counselor or pursuing one of these credentials.

3. Considerable knowledge of and expertise in teaching counseling.

4. Demonstrated ability to communicate to a diverse student-body audience, both verbally and in writing, with emphasis applied to a commitment to diversity.

5. Demonstrated ability to grasp and advocate an institution’s teaching and learning philosophy, preferably in an institution of higher education.

6. Possess experience, aptitude, and professional disposition in collaborating on the local, regional, and national levels in counseling.

7. Proficiency in and commitment to distance learning via online modalities.
