Norfolk State University's (NSU) Sociology Department invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Master of Arts in Criminal Justice beginning August 2024. We are seeking a teacher/scholar to offer a combination of courses in the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology programs, which may include courses such as Introduction to Criminal Justice Policing, Corrections, Crime and Delinquency, Juvenile Justice, Research Methods, Statistics, Introduction to Sociology, or other areas of interest.
This position involves growing the criminal justice curriculum and program. The teaching responsibility is a nine or twelve-hour course load, primarily face-to-face, with occasional online or blended courses. In addition to scholarships, serve on department and university committees, and assist with student recruitment, retention, and advisement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a closely related field is required.
- Prior teaching experience in the Sociology, or Criminal Justice disciple is required.
- Active research agenda in the discipline is required.
- Mastery of criminological and sociology theories and methodology
- Specialization in Social Justice
- Demonstrated ability to communicate to a diverse student-body audience, both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to grasp, advocate, and execute an institutional teaching and learning philosophy in higher education
- Demonstrate a commitment to attaining online teaching certification
