Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD) is a qualified Business Services Manager to assist in the development and growth of businesses located in the Southwest region of the Commonwealth.

The Business Services Manager will provide technical assistance to small businesses to include starting, marketing, and financing. The position will provide information on and assistance with applying for SWaM certification as well as business formation requirements and the use of the Business One Stop portal. The Business Services Manager will provide information and resources to small businesses through offering workshops, webinars and conferences. This position will also serve as Program Manager for the premier program NEW Virginia: Scaling4Growth and will offer assistance through one-on-one counseling sessions. The Business Services Manager will drive the sales growth rate of business clients (thus creating more jobs) by development of an effective sales strategy for accessing local, state and federal procurement, private and international markets. Key to this position is developing dynamic relationships with key small business resources in the community.

This position is located in Roanoke, Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work independently to solve business problems by identifying resources and coordinating their delivery; ability to work collaboratively with diverse customer populations; ability to work in a team-oriented, continuous improvement environment; ability to use PC, internet, tablets and appropriate software applications to manage and report program data; excellent written and oral communications skills; project management. Knowledge of government programs, regulations and processes, especially business formation and local, state and federal procurement and certifications for all levels of government and private certifications to assist SWaM businesses. Also must have the ability to research relevant data, prepare and deliver presentations before both small and large groups; ability to connect and build relationships with partners and media to enhance SWaM progress; and the ability to plan and successfully execute events. This position will serve the western part of Virginia as well as other parts of the state and requires frequent travel, with some overnight travel.

Significant experience in business management or economic development.
