Job Duties
The Department of History & Interdisciplinary Studies at Norfolk State University seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Interdisciplinary Studies. The Department offers five curricula in History, four curricula in Interdisciplinary Studies, three minors (Interdisciplinary Studies, History, and Africana Studies), a certificate in African and African Diaspora Studies, and fully online programs in both History and Interdisciplinary Studies. Application review begins immediately, and continues until the position is filled.
The successful candidate will:
· Instruct and mentor our diverse community of Interdisciplinary Studies majors.
· Teach undergraduate courses in Interdisciplinary Studies with specialization(s) outside of the social sciences.
· Develop and teach courses on regionally relevant topics that are addressable through interdisciplinary approaches involving the sciences, business, and/or education.
· Engage in both face-to-face and online instruction and have an interdisciplinary research/scholarship agenda.
· Assist with university service at the department, college, and university levels.
Minimum Qualifications
• A doctoral degree and graduate coursework in more than one discipline
• Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, and
• Evidence of potential for excellence in research
Preferred Qualifications
• A record of excellence in teaching, research, and service
• A record of or potential for obtaining external grant support
• Evidence of the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching, research/creative activities, and internal/eternal service
• A record of contributing to curriculum revision & improvement
