Job Duties
Conducts control operations utilizing properly trained and cared for canines. Provides security over adult supervisees at the institution and while in transport; supervises the daily activities of offenders while observing and recording their behavior and movement to ensure their safe and secure confinement. Earns and maintains patrol handler canine certification. In addition to working security post, keeps assigned canine in a state of readiness which includes exercising and feeding canine on a 24/7 basis. Conducts patrols in secure perimeter. Prepares reports and maintains logs. Provides escape prevention duties including supervising supervisees movement and activities. Reports on supervisees conduct and testifies in court or hearings when necessary. Maintains assigned equipment.
This is a long-term post assignment offering a $2,400 pay supplement to those who successfully compete all required training.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or a GED equivalent. Valid Driver’s License. Certification as Corrections Officer by DCJS. Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to train and handle canines. Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and to prepare workplace policies and procedures and prepare workplace reports and documentation using a computer.
Additional Considerations
Formal Experience or education in training and caring for canines.
