Job Duties

The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is seeking a customer service oriented professional to provide on-site support in the VRS Retirement Counseling Center engaging with VRS members and retirees through various communication formats to increase an understanding of VRS retirement benefits and services. This position will work independently providing retirement counseling virtually, in person or by phone.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

• Answer phone calls and respond to a variety of questions, inquires, and requests.

• Provides advanced-level retirement counseling to VRS members regarding retirement benefits to include complex retirement estimate calculations and information on VRS services.

• Educates members on and provides assistance in navigating Medicare eligibility and supplemental insurance.

• Provides email and workflow support as assigned.

• Performs various other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Hours of Work: 29 Hours a Week
Work Hours: Flexible during the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm
Workdays: Monday through Friday

Work Location: This position works on-site Monday through Friday in the VRS Retirement Counseling Center

 

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years experience counseling on benefits, working in Human Resources managing benefits or in a high volume customer service position or or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Successful candidates will possess:

• Superior customer service skills.
• Active listening skills and strong attention to detail.
• Excellent ability to communicate complex information orally and in writing.
• Ability to show professionalism, empathy and confidence.
• Proficiency in math.
• Ability to work independently and as a team solving problems and managing priorities.
