About the Job:
The Department of Juvenile Justice is recruiting for part-time housekeeping at the Bon Air campus. Bon Air is a secure 24-hour facility housing juveniles committed to the agency. In this 29-hour-a-week wage position, you’ll assist in providing an environmentally safe working environment for residents and staff by performing entry-level custodial services and janitorial operations in accordance with specific guidelines and safety regulations. These regulations are to include blood-borne pathogens and other related OSHA and EPA guidelines.

Daily tasks for assigned areas include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain Common Areas/ Storage spaces: 30% (lobbies, entryways, hallways, conference rooms, and breakrooms) - Dusting, cleaning surfaces, disinfecting hard and soft surfaces, sanitizing door handles, knobs, and frequently touched areas, straightening up lobbies, and entranceways, removing cobwebs, cleaning a/c units and vents, restocking supply areas, cleaning beverage center and breakrooms.
  • Trash 25% -Collect and remove trash, clean, and sanitize trash receptacles, and transport trash & waste to the proper disposal area.
  • Restrooms 20% - Clean and sanitize the latrine, wipe down sinks, partitions, and stainless steel, stock restrooms, clean mirrors, and sweep/mop floors.
  • Floor care 20% - Sweeping, dust mopping, scrubbing/cleaning baseboards, spot cleaning carpets, and vacuuming.
  • Window/Door Care 5% -Wiping and cleaning all glass and non-glass doors. Wiping down all office space doors and cleaning all elevator doors. 

This position will serve on an hourly basis and will average 29 hours per week; not to exceed 1500 hours per wage calendar year (May 1- April 30). This hourly role does not include agency-paid benefits. We ask that you be available Monday through Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Upon hire, new employees to the Commonwealth of Virginia will be offered a sign-on bonus of $500 paid in two installments.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant will have general knowledge of housekeeping procedures. Must have demonstrated ability to be trained to operate housekeeping equipment (vacuum, buffer, floor scrubber, etc.). Knowledge of industry-specific guidelines and safety regulations to include Hazard Communication: Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) OSHA guidelines and blood-borne pathogens. Ability to properly use or learn to use cleaning chemicals and agents. Must be able to walk and stand extensively; climb stairs; safely move or handle up to 35 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach (including reaching above the head to dust), push/pull, perform repetitive motion, and twist. Must be able to give and receive instruction in verbal and written form.

Additional Considerations

Prior commercial cleaning experience.
