Job Duties

The Lord Fairfax Health District is currently seeking a full-time Nutritionist Associate. This position will be located in the Warren County office serving Warren and Page Counties. Please be advised that you may be requested to travel to all offices throughout the district

The Nutritionist Associate independently determines nutrition and income eligibility of applicants/clients within program guidelines. Assesses nutritional status/eligibility for program services by dietary recall/food frequency history, assessing growth patterns, weight patterns, biochemical values and medical history, and independently prescribes appropriate food packages. Independently sets dietary goals based on the assessment. Provides patient counseling specific to the individual’s nutritional needs. Makes referrals for high-risk counseling with Nutritionist when appropriate.

This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the WIC NUTRITION ED and WIC CLIENT SERVICES for a one-year period ending 9/2024. The availability of funding is scheduled for review before the 9/30/2024 and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess basic knowledge of nutrition and nutritional standards
• Must complete required training to obtain the Certification as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) within 6 months of hire
• Demonstrated ability to: interview clients & collect client information; interpret, document, calculate & compile routine data; routinely obtain blood sample/finger stick; provide patient education
• Must be able to communicate and interact with a variety of patients and work effectively as a member of a health care team
• Skills using computer systems and systems required to support the programs

Additional Considerations

• Training, job experience, or coursework in Nutrition, Dietetics, food services, or a related area preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
• Experience obtaining blood samples/finger sticks, and taking heights and weights of individual
