Job Duties

This position is responsible for radio communications for the Law Enforcement Division of the Marine Resources Commission. It operates all radio communications equipment, answers, and transmits radio and telephone messages between VMRC vessels, vehicles, aircraft, as well as vessels and vehicles of other local, state, and federal agencies. It handles emergency calls and assist law enforcement management/staff in the directing of the use of resources during crises situations. It also receives and assists the walk-in public during normal MRC business hours Monday thru Friday. It performs sales of licenses, assists with inventory, data entry, some typing of letters and reports, and filing. Hours of dispatch operations are 24/7. Currently recruiting for 6am-2pm or 2pm-10pm shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

Police Dispatcher certification preferred; Must be flexible, able to work 8 hour rotating shifts; Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of people; Speaks clearly and concisely and be able to maintain composure during periods of emergency; Must be able to use independent judgment; Must be able to think through a crises, collect and organize data to facilitate crises operation, and ensures that safety guidelines and regulations are followed during the emergency. Must have a high school education or equivalent (GED); Experienced with radio systems, VCIN and NCIC certification preferred. Must be able to use a personal computer for data entry and clerical support.
*Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Additional Considerations

Physical activity requires some light lifting, walking, bending, stooping, and sitting.
