About The Position:

The Legal Assistant for the Division of Appeals and Fair Hearings provides paralegal and administrative support to the Appeals & Fair Hearings Unit in order to process appeal requests in a timely and accurate manner. Primary functions include daily data entry of appeal information, preparation of reports as required, transcribing hearing records, preparing cases for court, typing of correspondence including letters/vouchers, processing mail, answering telephones, filing and generally providing technical assistance to staff and the general public who contact the Unit concerning appeals. Additionally, the Legal Assistant provides direct support to Hearing Officers and Director of Appeals and Fair Hearing.


Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated:

• Experience preparing documents, case files, and/or hearings transcripts for attorney review.
• Working knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
• Ability to understand and adhere to Division policies and procedures.
• Ability to prepare hearing records for hearing officer and courts.
• Ability to prepare transcripts of Appeal Hearings.
• Accuracy in preparing letters/correspondence and other written documents.
• Ability to work under strict time constraints.
• Ability to assess workload, prioritize, adapt timely and appropriately to process documents and information within specified deadlines.
• Computer literacy with intermediate skills in word processing and database usage including demonstrated skills in data entry, retrieval, inquiry functions, and report generation.

• Familiarity with the administrative hearing process. Experience preparing legal documents
