This position is open to current DMV employees only.

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is seeking a Computer Systems Engineer for a position with its IT Services Division in Richmond, Virginia.

The incumbent in this position is responsible for the technical and functional development of automated systems, from user request through business objective statement, business process definition, data model, requirements definition, system construction, test, installation, and post-implementation review. This includes the necessary interaction with users, user and ITS management, technical staff, including DMV employees, contractors and outside customers and mentor the work of other technical developers. The incumbent may lead complex projects and/or serve as a team member on projects.


Problem solving capabilities in terms of logic and automation will be a great asset for this position while working with a team of knowledgeable IT professionals, supporting mission critical systems for Virginia DMV.

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. Minimum Qualifications

•Mainframe experience and background, programming languages and databases
•Effective working relationships, as team member and ability to work independently
•Ability to assume responsibility for critical functions and processes
•Software AG product set expertise and solid experience (ADABAS, NATURAL etc.)
•Solid background and experience developing in IBM MF environment using COMPLETE,
ISPF, TSO, TN3270 etc.
•Knowledge of MS Office suite of tools
•Good understanding of batch processing and IBM JCL
•Project Management skills or experience
•Experience working with business partners and various data and system interfaces
•Communicate professionally and effectively orally and in writing

Additional Considerations

•Object oriented programming experience
•Graduation from a college or university with major or minor in business, mathematics, or computer related field OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
•Ability and willingness to train new employees in DMVs Computer Systems environment.
