The Department of Forensic Science (DFS) is seeking a self-motivated individual to support the Finance Team with a variety of Finance functions while offering a flexible work schedule. The primary duties of this position include assisting with all aspects of processing vendor invoices and reimbursing employees for travel expenses in compliance with DFS and state policies. Other duties include assisting with recording information in transaction logs in a timely and accurate manner, managing the Finance email account, processing mail, providing copies of requested documents, preparing and keying deposits, and assisting other Finance team members.

The successful individual will be able to correctly interpret and apply policies and procedures; prioritize and complete their work accurately, timely, and with minimal supervision; communicate effectively both orally and in writing with internal and external customers; and provide excellent customer service.

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience performing accurate data entry and maintaining paper and electronic records
  • Experience with spreadsheet, word processing, and email software programs

Additional Considerations

  • Knowledge of or experience working in accounts payable and/or accounts receivable
  • Experience using Cardinal Financials, the Commonwealth’s Accounting System and/or experience with automated accounting systems
  • Experience working with a shared / group email account
  • Experience working with state accounting policies and procedures, particularly the Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) Manual and state travel policies

Economic Interest Statement: The selected candidate is required to file a Statement of Economic Interests form pursuant to the Code of Virginia § 2.2-3114, as a condition of employment. Additionally, the statement is to be filed annually by February 1. The selected candidate is required to complete the Statement of Economic Interest training within 60 days of employment and every two years thereafter.
