Job Duties

The Business and Accounting Manager is responsible for the Office of Epidemiology Administrative Team’s budget and accounting responsibilities. This position manages a team responsible for the Office’s professional accounting work of considerable difficult. Major duties include: Reconciliations and compliance, preparing management reports; resolving accounting errors; continuous review of accounting systems and recommendations for improvements; ensuring accurate and prompt distribution of Office of Epidemiology billings; and assessment of workloads and staffing assignments. Provides supervision of senior fiscal professional(s), technicians, and support personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience and knowledge of governmental accounting principles, policies, procedures, and standards
• Knowledge of state and federal grant financial management and reporting requirements
• Knowledge of federal cash management requirements
• Knowledge and experience with reconciliation processes
• Experience serving in a supervisory capacity, providing performance management and development of staff
• Demonstrated ability to interpret regulations, policies, and procedures, develops and implement changes with new processes into operational functions

Additional Considerations

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• Considerable, advanced, or expert knowledge of accounting or business administration practices
• Knowledge of Virginia and/or Virginia Department of Health accounting practices
• Experience using Virginia and/or Virginia Department of Health financial systems
