Job Duties

This position is with the Department of Corrections’ Western Regional Office located in the City of Roanoke, Virginia.
The Regional Ombudsman is responsible for monitoring implementation of the grievance procedures at the institutional and regional levels, for reviewing Level I grievances to ensure compliance with those procedures, and for the investigation and preparation of Level II appeals for the Regional Administrator’s signature.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid Virginia Driver’s License. Considerable knowledge of the Department’s programs, policies, procedures, and operations. The demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret Departmental policies, state, federal laws, and regulations. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to various audiences. Demonstrated ability to impartially analyze and define problems, solutions, alternatives and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to research, investigate and document accurately.

Additional Considerations

Previous experience in a VADOC institution.
