The Lyman Beecher Brooks Library at Norfolk State University is recruiting a Circulation Assistant (00481) to support operations of the Access Services department. The responsibilities include assisting with the daily operations of the department, including circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance, study rooms, and student workers, among other things. The position reports to the Circulation Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 Support the daily operations of the Access Services department of the library, including circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance, study rooms, and student workers.

 Assist with the circulation processes of the library to ensure information resources are properly loaned to students, faculty, staff, and others and accurately accounted for.

 Provide access to both general and reserve collections, including books, journals, and media, by administering the circulation functions of the integrated library system.

 Maintain the library’s circulating and non-circulating stacks of books, journals, and media to ensure resources are properly organized and accessible to library users.

 Manage access to the library’s study rooms for students, faculty, and staff, and help maintain the study room facilities, furniture, and equipment.

 Supervise student workers of the Access Services department, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating them.

 Adhere to policies and procedures for the operation of the Access Services department and the circulation of information resources.

 Collect and process fines and fees for overdue or lost items such as library books and study room keys.

 Record statistics regarding circulation transactions and other activities of the Access Services department.

 Assist library patrons at Information Services Desk during various daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for supervising 4-8 student workers.

Qualifications Required:

 Good information management and technology skills.

 Good verbal and written communication skills.

 Experience supervising employees or volunteers.

 A strong commitment to public service and customer service orientation.

 Ability to collaborate with others and work as a part of a team.

Preferred:

 A bachelor's degree.

 Experience working in an academic or public library.

 Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS)
