Job Duties

The Inmate Drug Testing Unit aims to ensure the safety and security of all DOC district offices by effectively and efficiently monitoring probationers and parolees during the collection process. The unit will monitor, observes and oversee drug testing of the probationers and parolees. The laboratory technician senior will communicate effectively with the manager and other departmental members to always ensure open dialogue. With all key components establishing a uniform drug result, enforce clear procedure, policies and drug guidelines to help improve the safety and security of all stakeholders.

The laboratory technician senior will be responsible for tracking and evaluating clients an applying drug testing policy and procedure and other guidelines to determine and support drug testing process. Build a rapport with clients, probation officers and deputy chief to preforms research using VACORIS, Shadow Track One, and email as needed. Be able to make appropriate decisions based on research and review of the client drug screen.

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver's License. Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment. Experience in standard office equipment. Knowledge of and ability to apply the Department's operational drug testing practices, policies, and procedures. Skilled in developing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to research and respond accurately to questionaries. Must be detailed orientated and able to work independently with minimum supervision. Experience in providing customer service and administrative support in a professional office setting. Ability to adapt to changes in procedure, priorities and the automated system, quickly and effectively. Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Considerations

Proficient in the use of windows operating systems to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Access) to accomplish office support requirements.
