Job Duties
Law students are invited to apply to our 2025 Summer Internship Program at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), based in Richmond, Virginia.
Each summer, the OAG sponsors an eight-week program, geared towards providing students with a unique, hands-on experience, and a realistic preview of work. The 2025 intern program runs from Monday, June 2 to Friday, July 25.
Program Highlights:
• Real-world Legal Exposure: Confront substantive legal challenges and contribute to impactful public interest cases.
• Exclusive Engagements: Participate in unique field trips and gain insights through behind-the-scenes tours and expert seminars.
Internship Duties:
• Conduct legal research, draft memoranda, pleadings, and other legal documents.
• Assist in organizing and collecting evidence, interview witnesses.
• Accompany attorneys to client meetings, board meetings, hearings, and court proceedings.
• Each summer intern will be supplied with the necessary administrative and technical training and support to utilize OAG’s case management and other electronic resources.
Location and Considerations:
• Location: This internship is an unpaid/volunteer position based in Richmond, Virginia. However, we will consider students for our regional offices on a case-by-case basis. Please note that this is an in-person internship, and remote work will be allowed only in special circumstances.
• Parking: Parking will be provided through VCU’s RamRide program.
Minimum Qualifications
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills are required.
• Demonstrated ability to work with people across different social identities and backgrounds.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
• Must complete at least one semester of law school.
Additional Considerations
• To be considered for the 2025 Summer OAG Internship Program, students must be currently enrolled at an accredited law school. Students accepted into the internship program must be able to participate in the full eight-week program and exhibit a genuine interest in working for state government.
• Interested candidates must submit a cover letter detailing your area of legal interest, a resume, and academic transcripts (unofficial acceptable).
