Job Duties
Norfolk State University’s (NSU) Department of Facilities Management provides a campus environment that is conducive to working and learning through systematic maintenance, repair, and renovation and construction of campus buildings, facilities, and infrastructure.
Norfolk State University, Department of Facilities Management, is currently seeking an Electrician III.
The successful candidate will perform repairs to various types of electrical equipment/systems on campus, with repairs meeting all city and state codes. Perform electrical preventative maintenance; inspecting electrical equipment, making photographic documentation, cleaning electrical equipment, removing debris and maintaining electrical equipment/systems. Keeping a daily accurate inventory of all tools and equipment. Performing daily review and timely responses to email and telephone messages. Performing other related duties as assigned. The successful candidate will promote and practice safe work habits to achieve an accident-free work environment in accordance with state OSHA rules and must be available to respond to after normal working hours emergency calls to perform vital electrical repairs.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Journeyman Electrician License.
2. Supervisory experience/Team lead experience.
3. Considerable knowledge of and experience in repairing commercial electrical equipment and systems.
4. Demonstrated ability to climb ladders and perform routine inspections on normal or high elevation equipment.
5. Demonstrated ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using the appropriate testing instruments.
6. Inspect and test electrical lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits/equipment.
7. Remove and replace faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other elements of systems, fixtures, and appliances to ensure proper operation per trade practice and required safety codes.
8. Demonstrated ability to interface effectively, both verbally and in writing, and provide quality customer service.
9. Ability to respond to emergencies both before and after business hours.
10. Previous experience inspecting and installing electrical equipment/systems for serviceability.
11. High School diploma, GED, military or equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
12. General computer knowledge required.
13. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Additional Considerations
1. Demonstrated skill in reading schematics, blueprints, and various electrical diagrams in efforts to ascertain the status and efforts needed in repairing/maintaining various electrical systems.
2. Master Electrician License.
