Job Duties
The position of Deputy Clerk (Grade 8) with the Hopewell Combined District Court is assigned operational responsibilities in a fast paced, high-volume office with frequent deadlines. Ensures court’s instructions are executed and legal documents are prepared with accuracy and in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures. Applicant must have a desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
Duties include, but are not limited to, providing support in the courtroom, ensuring court’s instructions are executed, preparing detailed court documents in accordance with established guidelines and appropriate policies, and automated case management system data entry. Duties will also include assessing and receipting fines and costs; scanning documents; answering telephone calls; assisting the public at the front counter with courtesy and tact. Must have the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, and to respond and interact with the public, attorneys, and other agencies effectively. The best candidate should be detail oriented with the ability to work independently and as a team member. Other duties are assigned based on the needs of the court and of management.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Applicant must have a strong work ethic, organizational skills, be detail-oriented, have the ability to manage priorities, be able to work independently as well as with a team, and be flexible with assignments. Applicant must have to ability to deliver a high degree of tact and diplomacy for customer interaction in person, as well as over the phone. Job requires being able to stand/sit for hours and being able to lift and bend to retrieve files. Advanced knowledge of office automation systems and computer software required. The most competitive applicants will have court experience, knowledge of the court/criminal justice system, work under pressure and have reliable attendance.
