Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) engages families for success. Its Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) manages nearly 251,000 cases to ensure that child support payments of $590 million per year reach families across the Commonwealth.

This position serves as the lead fiscal agent for child support cases, engaging families for success so that they have the financial and family support they need to grow and thrive. Researches documentation and verifies calculations and balances of financial accounts to support actions by case management staff (establishment, court, review/adjustment and enforcement). Completes timely and accurate receipt, deposit and disbursements of payments, communicating directly with clients and employers as needed. Performs in supervisory or workload coordination role and will provide direct support to the Division of Child Support Enforcement.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to give guidance and training to others that promotes teamwork, improving member contributions and team results; ability to organize and direct the work flow of others

Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures pertaining to Child Support Enforcement

Knowledge of accounting or bookkeeping principles and/or practices.

Ability to analyze legal and financial data and reports; to perform mathematical computations and reconciliation of financial data.

Ability to:
Plan, organize and manage multiple priorities
Independently research cases to resolve moderately difficult problems
Analyze legal reports
Work with a diverse audience to communicate effectively orally and in writing with the general public
Apply supervisory principles and techniques

Skill in:
Conflict resolution
Using a personal computer, spreadsheet and word processing applications (Microsoft Word and Excel), and automated information/financial systems.

Additional Considerations

Work experience providing customer service to the general public in an office environment.
