Southeastern Virginia Training Center is seeking a Building and Grounds Maintenance Assistant to join our team. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment, supporting the well-being of adults with intellectual disabilities

At Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) we serve citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) where we support individuals in state-of-the-art homes with accommodations unique to their specific needs. About the Role
This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency or facility need. All SEVTC positions are required to work different shifts and/or overtime as requested.
• Troubleshooting, repairing, and performing various maintenance tasks, including
• plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and other duties as assigned
• Planning and organizing assigned work, gathering necessary materials, tools, and
• equipment to work efficiently
• Reading, understanding, and following instructions to complete tasks accurately and safely
• Adhering to applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with strong interpersonal skills
All new hires must successfully complete the facility’s Pre-service training program. Preservice training class is 5 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Skills and experience required:
We are seeking a candidate who is dependable, accountable, and reliable. Additionally, the ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (required)
- An active, valid driver’s license (required)
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience in maintenance or construction trades such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, painting, or drywall.
