Job Duties

Hiram W. Davis Medical Center is one of 12 inpatient facilities operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.

Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a 94-bed medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.

Hiram W. Davis Medical Center is currently recruiting for a Full-Time Chief Nursing Officer to join our team. The Chief Nursing Officer will be responsible for organizing, directing all operational and clinical functions of the Nursing Department. The Chief Nursing Officer provides clinical leadership in the operations of Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), Nursing Facility (NF) and acute general medical (GM). The role will ensure that qualified nursing staff are available to provide nursing care 24 hours a day. The position will also maintain accreditation and certifications of regulating organizations. Th Chief Nursing Officer develops policies, procedures, strategic planning, budget planning, and goal achievement for the Nursing Department. The role also directly supervises all Nursing Supervisors.

Job Duties:
- Directs all clinical functions of the Department of Nursing by ensuring the entire Nursing Department through Shift Supervisors by providing the highest standard of care and ensuring the resident care delivery is based on compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Ensures adherence to nursing policies and procedures that are current and accurate. Communicates and interprets nursing philosophy, practice standards and policies to nursing personnel, hospital administration and other clinical and non-clinical department heads.
- Makes frequent rounds on each nursing unit (to include all 3 shifts) to ascertain the quality of care given by personnel and discusses patient's care with staff, stays abreast of resident/patient care information for resolution of problems related patient care issues, and ascertain unit operation for resolution of problems related to staff and other departments.
- Ensures Nursing department compliance with license, orientation, yearly mandatory trainings, competencies, and other identified required documents.
- Oversee the regulatory compliance on care delivery by ensuring self-awareness of current standards through research, seeking assistance from the PI Director and by participating in the workgroup initiatives and ensuring staff awareness and staff compliance of the current, standards including enforcement of established plans of corrections and audits.
- Evaluates performance of Nursing Supervisors based on their compliance and enforcement of CMS/VDH and Joint Commission regulations.
- Establishes and promotes harmonious working relationship, teamwork, and collaborative behavior among all Nursing Supervisors, and other assigned positions.
- Works with the hospital's Joint Commission (JC) accreditation and VA Department of Health (Medicare/Medicaid) certification preparation processes.

Minimum Qualifications

- Virginia Registered Nurse License
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Considerable knowledge and skills in advance principles and practices of nursing specific to medical surgical, geriatric and long-term care.
- Considerable experience in supervision and management

Additional Considerations

- Master's Degree in Nursing or related field, or currently enrolled in Master's program preferred.
- Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) preferred
- Knowledge and/or experience in Long Term Care setting
- Knowledge of CMS/VDH, Joint Commission and Virginia Board of Nursing regulations
