As part of the Virginia Department of Health, Crater Health District serves the Cities of Hopewell, Emporia, and Petersburg, as well as the Counties of Sussex, Greensville, Surry, Prince George, and Dinwiddie. Key Responsibilities:
Cross-Training in Comprehensive Health Services: Gain experience across a wide range of public health services, including sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, family planning education, immunizations, low-risk prenatal care, and long-term screening services. You will have the opportunity to work in various clinical and community-based settings.

Holistic Patient Care: Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in diverse environments such as clinics, homes, schools, and other community settings. Your responsibilities will include performing nursing assessments and administering medications.

Public Health Emergency Response: Play an integral role in public health emergencies, assisting with critical response efforts and directly contributing to the health and safety of the community.

Collaboration with Social Services: Work closely with social services to assess Medicaid/Medicare eligibility and support individuals through long-term screening services, ensuring access to necessary care and resources.

Professional Growth and Development: Enhance your skills and expertise through cross-functional roles in various clinics, fostering ongoing professional development and broadening your experience in public health nursing.

Requires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies.

In addition, all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) must provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year's seasonal influenza vaccination.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state. If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing. Requires BLS certification.
• Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and/or counseling techniques.
• Knowledge of case management, and/or ambulatory clinic services.
• Knowledge of nursing theories related to improving the health of the community.
• Work effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Additional Considerations

• Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion
• BSN Preferred
