Job Duties
THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT VIRGINIA STATE EMPLOYEES.
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is in search of a Compensation and Classification Consultant to support the effective and consistent coordination and implementation of classification and compensation processes and procedures and ensure effective and efficient classification and compensation operations and functions. In addition, this position maintains data accuracy, updates reconciles system data, and provides consultation to hiring managers and leadership on compensation and classification requests. The incumbent will coordinate special projects and provide research and analysis upon request.
Duties include:
- Obtaining approvals for Agency Hiring Requests when necessary
- Assisting managers with developing or updating employee work profiles/job descriptions
- Evaluating job content for appropriate FLSA status and recommending changes to FLSA status to the manager
- Providing classification reviews prior to recruitment and compensation analysis for salary offers for final candidates for hire
- Reviewing and processing promotion, demotion, and other salary requests
- Performing job audits and classification reviews
- Working collaboratively with the Talent Acquisition team in the pre-posting phase of recruitments regarding classification and appropriate posted salary ranges in compliance with state policy
- Conducting research related to state salaries, market salary data, development of appropriate pay scales, compensation trends, and legal compliance related to compensation administration
- Developing recommendations for internal pay structure changes based on well documented analysis and research

Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable working knowledge of human resource management policies, procedures, and best practices governing compensation and classification, and salary administration.
- Working knowledge of the FLSA and DOL regulations.
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia classification and compensation policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a statewide, diverse agency.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel to include the use of formulas and v-lookup tables.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with a team, and with various levels of management and staff.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience in job analysis, job evaluation, and salary setting.
Additional Considerations
- Commonwealth of Virginia classification and compensation experience
- Possession of related certification is preferred (e.g. SHRM, PHR, CCP, etc)
