Job Duties

This position provides comprehensive psychological services including assessment, treatment and consultation for adult patients (over age 18 years) to assist individuals in their recovery. Performs work of considerable complexity requiring training in psychology or related field and is involved in the planning and coordinating of their assigned clinical functions with those of multidisciplinary team members. Consults on a diverse range of issues to which psychological expertise is applicable to their team, unit, and department to assist the facility in accomplishing its mission and vision. Provides expert opinion and consultation to the courts on a range of forensic mental health issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of the principles and methods of psychological services delivery, including psychological assessments, testing, diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and services planning.

Demonstrated ability to provide consultation for persons throughout the adult lifespan who have a variety of presenting problems and mental disorders. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Knowledge of issues related to the assessment and treatment of forensic patients.

Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation with severe mental disorders and complex co-occurring disorders.

Level of physical functioning required for highly demanding eight-hour day.

Ability to work in a secure and locked environment with individuals who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness, addiction and/or forensic/legal involvement.

Additional Considerations

Individuals who are eligible for licensure as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Virginia within one year.

Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or documented equivalent.

Experience providing mental health services and/or psychiatric rehabilitation to individuals with severe mental disorders and complex co-occurring disorders.
