Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to support agency staff with computer related issues and duties deemed to be outside the scope of the Virginia Information Technology Agency (VITA) services. This position also supports agency staff with VITA processes to provision and to resolve issues within scope infrastructure, network, and end user services. The position is responsible for installing and supporting agency software, hardware, and peripherals. The position manages infrastructure projects including but not limited to desktop refresh, upgrades, patching, and telecommunications. The position also administers the agency’s infrastructure including but not limited to laptops, windows servers, mobile devices, and COTS applications. The position maintains asset management for hardware and software. In addition, the position supports agency with access request and ticket processing for additions, changes, and removal of entitlements. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth’s telework policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of technology infrastructure and established skills at providing exceptional service to customers. Demonstrated track record of successfully working on a service desk or providing desktop support for an organization. Demonstrated experience supporting a remote workforce with a variety of technical capabilities. Proven ability to install and securely manage hardware, software, and utilities. Expert knowledge of end user office automation and windows commercial off the shelf software. Demonstrated experience supporting desktops, laptops, mobile devices, network printers, and various peripherals. Experience administering and supporting Windows servers. Strong organization skills with a proven ability to multitask and prioritize work for self and more junior staff. Ability to work closely with others on a small team to deliver exceptional services. Strong oral and written communication skills to deliver agency end user notifications to technical and non-technical staff. H.S Diploma/GED required.

Additional Considerations

A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities to include knowledge of engineering, computer science, information technology, or related field. Experience supporting a secure infrastructure in a government or highly regulated environment, and leading efforts to improve infrastructure and end user services for an organization.
