Job Duties

To assure quality control of food products manufactured within the department. The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for the overall quality and safety of food items grown, processed, and packaged by Agribusiness. This position also assists with re-entry certifications related to Agribusiness.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to design, implement, manage & monitor Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs, knowledge of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Worker Protection Standard (WPS) & Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) regulations. Demonstrated ability to design, write, & implement procedural manuals & assist in customer relation programs for Department of Corrections (DOC) manufacturing plants. Working knowledge of large-scale agricultural operations or food production sites.

Additional Considerations

Working experience in agriculture/life sciences, food service, or related degree. Working knowledge of state procurement practices. Working knowledge of inmate supervision practices. Working knowledge of religious diets such as Kosher.
