Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled leader to work as Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) Compliance Manager. This position will provide technical support to the VOSH program. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Assisting with the review of VOSH case files in the regional offices
• Researching and analyzing technical issues
• Providing subject matter expertise
• Driving consistency of case file documentation
• Ensuring case file deadlines are met

Minimum Qualifications

What you will bring:
• Detailed knowledge of safety and health issues in a variety of construction, agricultural, and general industry occupations, processes, and equipment
• Knowledge of protective devices and equipment
• Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the VOSH Plan
• Working skill in the operation and maintenance of safety and health equipment
• Ability to research and interpret complex technical questions
• Ability to review and audit program activities to determine efficiency and effectiveness of Compliance Officer activities
• Understanding of adult learning practices
• Ability to lead employees and teams without direct organizational management lines (dotted line reporting)

Additional Considerations

• Certification in the areas of occupational safety and health; industrial engineering; industrial hygiene; chemistry; physics or a related science/field; or an equivalent combination of training and professional experience related to the duties of this position
• Certification in a safety or health discipline issued by a recognized organization such as the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or the Board for Global EHS Credentialing, including Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industry Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Manager (CSM), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar

Special requirements:
• Possession or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to travel overnight occasionally.
• Must meet minimum duty requirements for the position as measured by the Agency’s Physical/Cognitive Checklist.
• Ability to perform moderate physical activity that includes, but is not limited to: climbing stairs and ladders, bending, walking up and down inclines, occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds, etc.
• The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal background investigation, and successfully serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment if beginning employment as an original hire or re-employment.

Special instructions:
The selected candidate will be hired at $84,000 + Full State Benefits. The agency will not entertain salary negotiations for this position.
