Job Duties
This position independently performs the processing, analysis and reconciliation responsibilities associated with the administration of the payroll and benefits accounting functions for assigned agencies.
Processes complex payroll, benefits, and leave transactions for multiple salaried and wage payroll certifications (confirmation) each scheduled pay period; reviews reports to ensure accurate exceptional item processing and makes necessary updates; processes court-ordered withholdings, direct deposits, and voluntary deductions; balances and processes time and attendance data; prepares payments for distribution to assigned agencies and third parties; pursues collection of overpayments; audits and processes leave payouts; analyzes and resolves exceptions; performs monthly reconciliations; produces reports for agency monitor responsibilities; administers non-Virginia taxes; prepares annual leave liability analysis; files associated documents; and provides excellent customer service.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of generally accepted payroll practices; and Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel).
Strong oral and written communication; mathematical; customer service; accurate data entry; multitasking; teamwork; and analytical skills.
Ability to independently review and apply established policies, procedures, standards, and regulations; work independently within existing guidelines and policies in a fast-paced environment; analyze a wide variety of data and determine appropriate handling; adapt to changes in policies, procedures, and priorities proficiently; work independently; handle multiple work assignments of varying complexity simultaneously and inform management of the status of work completion; manage details with few errors; interpret instructional materials and execute business processes accordingly; analyze problems of varied and considerable difficulty and determine appropriate resolutions; read and analyze reconciliation reports of varied and considerable difficulty; prepare certifications and reconciliations accurately and proficiently; maintain a strong level of professionalism in all interactions; and display emotional maturity necessary for this position.
Additional Considerations
Experience working in payroll operations. Experience processing high volumes of payroll and working with benefits processing and/or absence management preferred; related experience in high-volume environments strongly preferred. Education or professional experience in Accounting.
