Job Duties:
Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) provides people with disabilities comprehensive, individualized services to realize optimal personal independence and employment. We strive to be the preferred provider of comprehensive vocational rehabilitation for Virginians with Disabilities.
The Occupational Therapy (OT) Department at WWRC seeks a qualified individual to serve as a driving instructor on a part-time/hourly basis (hours per week could vary depending on client caseload demands and/or coverage needs for other driving staff who are scheduled to be off but will not exceed 1500 hrs./yr). The position will involve instructing students in Driver Education and Traffic Safety, enabling them to obtain a Virginia Learner's Permit and/or Operator's License; This will be achieved through the use of the WWRC Driver Education curriculum, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Operator's Manual, related materials, and hands-on driving instruction; reinforce with each student appropriate behaviors and attitudes that are consistent with work readiness and/or safe driving practices using applicable WWRC policies, procedures, and information, as described in the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle Operator's Manual; maintain a safe and orderly environment for students enrolled in the Driver Education course by stressing safety in instruction with each student and by making clear expectations and consistently enforcing them.
To meet the expectations of the clinician, the incumbent must have access to personally identifiable and confidential information about agency consumers and/or agency staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge/Experience:
• Knowledge of driver education and traffic safety curriculum and instruction requirements and rules of the road
• Knowledge of disabling conditions and understanding of disability impact on driving functions
Skills/Abilities:
• Skill in instructing students in driver education and traffic safety
• Able to conduct on-the-road instructional sessions
• Ability to organize and manage a program of instruction
