Job Duties
Virginia Military Institute, an NCAA Division I and Southern Conference member, is accepting applications for a full-time Director of Athletic Multimedia.
Job Duties:
• Produce live video broadcasts for all home VMI Athletic events designated for ESPN+ and select
linear events for Southern Conference TV packages, produce highlight packages, conceptualize and
develop features and other creative content for use throughout the Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics (i.e. attend practices, film interviews, assist with photos, media days) for the VMI Athletics Website and VMI Athletics Social Media channels(both promotional and advertisement inventory).
• Serve as liaison to the Southern Conference for video and multimedia.
• Coordinate, develop and supervise all game day production crew staff to include student and
freelance workers.
• Set up, break down and move broadcast equipment to and from respective VMI Athletics venues when
necessary.
• Assist in other external relations efforts, the development of content for use on all social media
platforms and creation or appropriate strategy for expanding the VMI brand through video and
creative content.
• Demonstrate organizational skills in handling, directing and prioritizing multiple and complex
assignments and projects
• Ability to establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with VMI staff,
administration, cadet-athletes, faculty and the public
• Ability to communicate with internal and external constituencies in a professional manner.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or members of the community.
• Create, shoot, edit and produce short videos with sport Limelines.
• Attend the workplace regularly, report to work punctually and follow a work schedule to keep up
with the demands or the worksite.
• Working hours may include evenings, holidays, or weekends depending on deadline requirements and
special events (Conference Championships/Tournaments, Media Days, NCAA Championships, etc).
• Must be able to lift 20 pounds. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in video production, Radio/TV/Film, communications or related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years' experience in a broadcast production setting at the higher education level or equivalent professional setting. Relevant undergraduate experience in the field of college athletics video production.
Additional Considerations
• Experience with digital video hardware (ie Daktronics, Newtek, Ross, Canon), software (ie Adobe Premier, AfterEffects and Photoshop or equivalent programs). Experience working on live productions, serving in director and/or producer role. Extensive knowledge of the digital media landscape, both technical and creative. Strong technical skills and ability to leverage emerging
media. Ability to operate, maintain and teach others on necessary broadcast equipment, including but not limited to Tricaster, replay system, LiveText, AJT, camera operations, etc.
• Work well within a team environment and meet deadlines while balancing multiple tasks.
