Job Duties
A. Performance Management (for employees who supervise
Others)
• Expectations are clear, well communicated and relate to the goals and objectives of the department or unit;
• Staff receive frequent, constructive feedback and coaching, including interim evaluations as appropriate;
• Staff have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish goals and are evaluated for competency throughout the evaluation cycle;
• The requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation;
C. Clinical Leadership
As the Nursing Shift Supervisor, the nurse leader has the responsibility to supervise the nursing staff and patient care for the duration of the assigned shift includes:
• directing all clinical functions based on regulatory standards
• provision of the highest quality patient care based on regulatory standards
• Staff compliance of Policies/Procedures and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities over Regulatory compliance on care delivery:
• Ensures self-awareness of current, revised and new standards through research, seeking assistance from the QM/RM Director and by participating in the workgroup initiatives.
D. Shift Operations
Establishes and promotes harmonious working relationship, teamwork and collaborative behavior among all staff.
Counsels employee utilizing Progressive Disciplinary actions based on Standards of Conduct for performance or infractions affecting unsatisfactory performance, policies & procedures during the shift. Forward all incidents and reports to the Unit Manager
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of professional nursing, supervising and administrative principles and practices; basic knowledge of budgeting and scheduling; knowledge of legal requirements affecting nursing practices. Considerable skill in advanced nursing procedures specifically in a med-surgical, psychiatric or geriatric field. Demonstrated ability to work independently, to evaluate program and staff performance, to develop standards of care and operational procedures, to perform patient assessment, to troubleshoot problems and to establish priorities
Additional Considerations
Experience in nursing at the professional level coupled with experience in medical/surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, rehabilitative nursing and or nursing care of the mentally retarded
