Job Duties
+ Manages the overall operations of the Technical Services department of the library, including establishing goals, developing policies and procedures, managing budgets, supervising work, and evaluating library staff for collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic resources.
+ Supervises the Collection Development Librarian and all aspects of collection development for the library, including identifying, evaluating, selecting, acquiring, and removing physical and electronic information resources; developing and maintaining business relationships with book, journal, and database vendors; and negotiating library purchases and licenses.
+ Oversees the acquisition of physical and electronic books, journals, and media for the library, including establishing acquisitions goals, policies, and procedures and supervising acquisitions staff; ensures the acquisition of information resources supports the programs and curricula of the university; and oversees the ordering, receiving, payment, and processing of new materials.
+ Performs or supervises original cataloging and copy cataloging for all formats of information resources for the library, including establishing cataloging goals, policies, and procedures and supervising cataloging staff; maintains the accuracy and quality of the library’s bibliographic records in the online catalog; imports new and revised bibliographic records from OCLC into the integrated library system; ensures bibliographic records adhere to professional standards.
+ Supervises the Electronic Resources Librarian and the management of the library’s electronic information resources and research utilities, including the discovery service, and various online databases; establishes goals, policies, and procedures for acquiring, developing, maintaining, and providing access to electronic resources; manages purchasing and licensing of electronic information resources through library vendors and consortia.
+ Provides systems administration for certain functions of the integrated library system related to collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic resources.
+ Helps staff the library’s Information Services Desk during regular hours of operation, including day, evening, and weekend shifts.
+ Provides data and statistics regarding collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic resources to the Dean of Library Services periodically and as needed.
+ Participates in library associations and consortia and in professional development activities and training.
+ Represents the library on university shared governance committees and participates in
campus events and initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for directly supervising the Collection Development Librarian and the Electronic Resources Librarian.
Minimum Qualifications
+ A master’s degree in library science from a program accredited by the American Library
Association.
+ At least 5 years of experience working in libraries and performing technical services.
+ Demonstrated experience performing original cataloging and copy-cataloging
+ Demonstrated experience managing electronic information resources.
+ At least 5 years of experience as a library manager and supervising library staff.
+ A strong commitment to public service and customer service orientation.
+ Good verbal and written communication skills.
+ Good information literacy and information technology skills.
Additional Considerations
+ Experience working in academic libraries.
+ Experience using OCLC WorldShare Management Services.
