About this position
The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Facilities and Engineering Administrative Assistant.
This is a 12-month, classified position with state benefits, including health insurance, retirement, life insurance and disability coverage.

The Administrative Assistant for the Facilities and Engineering Department at the Virginia School for the
Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) provides essential administrative and clerical support to ensure the efficient
operation of the department. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and
the ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and other stakeholders. The Administrative
Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including recordkeeping, financial tracking, work order
coordination, and general office management.
The Facilities and Engineering Administrative Assistant at VSDB will provide safe and secure
campus/facilities for all faculty, staff, students and visitors of The Virginia School for the Deaf and the
Blind-Staunton

Minimum Qualifications

▪ Two (2) or more years of experience in an administrative support role, preferably in a facilities, engineering, or maintenance environment.
▪ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and work order management systems.
▪ Strong organizational and time management skills.
▪ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
▪ Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
▪ Knowledge of purchasing and budget tracking processes is a plus.
▪ Proficiency level of “Novice” in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years.
▪ Willingness to work various shifts during emergencies and/or agency needs.
▪ Physical requirements: Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Occasional lifting of office supplies or light equipment (up to 25 lbs). Ability to navigate various areas of campus, including maintenance facilities.

Additional Considerations

▪ High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
▪ Hold a valid Virginia Driver’s License or ability to obtain following DMV guidelines
