Job Duties
The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education (EESE) within the School of Education at Norfolk State University invites applications for the Adjunct Instructor of Special Education position, with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2025. We seek candidates that have expertise in curriculum development and instruction for elementary school learners, inclusive classroom environments, and research-based best practices in elementary education.
Norfolk State University’s Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education (EESE) is housed in the School of Education. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs focused upon working with children in P-12 school settings as well as community and agency programs.
Adjunct faculty will be expected to:
- Teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Special Education (B.S.Ed.) and Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree programs in Special Education
- Advise students as required
- Contribute to curricula development in the department
- Hold office hours as designated by the University for adjunct faculty
- Meet with the Department Chair for delineated departmental meetings
Minimum Qualifications
To teach master’s level courses, an earned doctorate (Ph.D. /Ed.D.) in Special Education or related field from an accredited college or university is necessary. To teach undergraduate courses, an earned masters or education specialist degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university is necessary. Candidates should have evidence of or demonstrated potential for inclusive teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level that builds engaging, relevant, and authentic learning experiences for students.
Additional Considerations
Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching experience at the college or university level and considerable practice with face-to-face and online course delivery modalities.
