The Department of General Service Office of Facilities Management (OFM) is looking for a seasoned, professional Housekeeping Supervisor to assist the Housekeeping Manager with the overall operation of the department. Under the supervision of the Housekeeping Manager, this position will supervise all housekeeping, set up and breakdown for special events.

OFM is responsible for over 40 buildings and operates and maintains about 6.45 million square feet of buildings and grounds at the seat of government to include the Governor’s Mansion, Virginia State Capitol, General Assembly building, and Capitol Square. Our dedicated Housekeeping team ensure tenants receives high quality, cost defective and timely services to affect a clean, safe, efficient, and comfortable environment in and around the buildings it manages.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and schedule staff to provide effective workforce for the Housekeeping Department.
  • Provide input to the Housekeeping Manager regarding the hiring of staff, performance evaluations, and disciplinary issues.
  • Train new Housekeeping staff by demonstrating use of equipment and cleaning techniques, and ensure OFM Operating Procedures are being met by Housekeeping staff.
  • Check e-mail system and special events board for housekeeping requests, messages, and new information.
  • Assist and provide guidance for the set-up and breakdown of special events.
  • Assist with furniture movement and ensure that special events equipment are in place before events.
  • Keeps inventory of housekeeping equipment and supplies.
  • Resolve complaints.

This position has an assigned schedule of 3:45 pm – 11:45 pm Monday-Friday. Occasional weekend and holiday work will also be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license (or able to obtain VA license within 60 days of employment).
  • Considerable knowledge and experience with cleaning techniques, methods, materials, equipment, and chemicals for a wide variety of surfaces and materials.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience stripping and waxing floors as well as shampooing carpets.
  • Knowledge of safety practices in the use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate power cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and vacuums.
  • Ability to independently plan, schedule, and supervise the work of a multi-shift housekeeping staff for both comprehensive housekeeping and special events.
  • Ability to develop, apply, and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Experience using computers, including email, word processors such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs, and spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience developing, applying, and interpreting policies and/or procedures.
  • Experience supervising housekeeping staff for comprehensive housekeeping and special events.
  • Experience operating power cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and vacuums.
