Job Duties
•Candidates with prior fingerprint training and experience may be hired as a Fingerprint Technician Senior (Fingerprint Technician II), and the salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
•Candidates with limited experience are hired as a Fingerprint Technician Trainee (Fingerprint Technician I - pay-band 3, $40,180). Employees are moved to Senior (Fingerprint Technician II) after successful completion of a one-year BRS Fingerprint Training curriculum and will receive a 10% salary increase. This training period may be extended up to six months, and the total training period shall not exceed 18 months.
•Experienced candidates who are not placed in a trainee status are not eligible for the 10% salary increase.
About the Position:
The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Fingerprint Technician Trainee in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. This is a trainee fingerprint identification and classification level position, and the purpose is to successfully complete the Muti-Modal Biometric Identification System (MBIS) training thereby becoming proficient in examining, comparing, identifying, classifying, and searching fingerprints in MBIS. The successful candidate will file both printed and electronic fingerprints and palm prints in the Henry system and Integrated Fingerprint Workstation (IFW) utilizing MBIS and archival systems.

Minimum Qualifications
•Demonstrated skill in customer service and aiding personnel.
•Skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
•Demonstrated ability to participate and successfully complete Muti-Modal Biometric Identification System (MBIS) training; to comprehend and learn fingerprint classification systems; to work independently, and as a team member; to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; to pay close attention to detail; to perform concise work; and to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
•Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either being a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Additional Considerations
•Knowledge of fingerprint classification and search methodologies using modified Henry system and Muti-Modal Biometric Identification System (MBIS) preferred.
• Experience in examining, comparing, and classifying fingerprints preferred.
