Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.
ESH invites applications for the position of DIETETIC TECHNICIAN (DSA III). This position is responsible for providing quality comprehensive nutritional care to patients by maintaining appropriate and accurate nutritional documentation in accordance with CMS, OBRA, TJC, state and hospital policies.
The DIETETIC TECH (DSA III) completes activities with CBORD/ Net Menu application relating the EHR to patient meal tickets and snacks labels as needed (follow through to printing and evaluation); interacts with the Diet Office Manager, as staffing needs dictate; and, as part of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), reviews patient tray accuracy/ temperatures monitors distribution and collection of patient dislike and/ or satisfaction surveys, etc. to ensure quality of nutritional care.
The qualified candidate should possess:
- Knowledge in basic and therapeutic nutrition; food preparation; nutritional programs; service standards; and nutritional standards by JACHO, OBRA, and CMS; and service standards.
- Proficient in calculating caloric, protein and fluid needs, IBW and IBW Range, BMI, and% change in weight.
- Experience performing routine patient education on diets and potential drug-nutrient interactions.
- Experience in providing nutrition care to patients individually and in groups and demonstrate an ability to document patient interactions.
In addition, performing the essential functions of this position requires prolonged sitting, manual dexterity on keyboard, bending, stooping and routine lifting of 50 pounds or 25% of body weight (whichever is less).
Must be credentialed as a Registered Dietetic Tech within two years of date of hire.
Minimum Qualifications
- Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) as established by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or must be within two (2) years of date of hire.
- Some experience completing nutritional assessments and documentation in a medical record.
**DTR exam eligibility requirements: Associates Degree and completion ACEND Accredited Dietetic Technician Program (with 450 supervised practice hours) or Bachelor's Degree and completion of ACEND accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics.
Additional Considerations
- Experience working a mental health institution or nursing home is preferred.
