Job Duties

Serve Virginia’s veterans, their dependents and family members by ensuring they receive the benefits, support, quality care, and recognition they have earned through their service and sacrifice. To serve as an advocate for the veteran-claimant to ensure full benefit entitlement under all laws enacted for the benefit of veterans and their dependents. To represent veterans throughout the appeals process before administrative boards and will not represent veterans before the US federal courts. To assist with quality reviews of routine appeals and advise Veteran Service Representatives on all aspects of the appeals process as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to veterans’ benefits. Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations pertaining to veterans’ benefits. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates. Knowledge of personnel and fiscal management principles. Experience in communicating with the public, interpreting laws and regulations related to eligibility determinations and directing the work of employees.

Additional Considerations

• A new probationary period will be required for all new Benefits employees who have not completed and currently maintain USDVA  Accreditation, regardless of whether the employee has previously completed a state probationary period.
• REAL ID is required for employment as a part of the federal prerequisites for USDVA Accreditation.
• Must reside in the Commonwealth of Virginia
