Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.

The Training and Development Consultant will serve as a member of the Office of the Commissioner under the Workforce Development and Engagement Director. This role will support the Monthly Operating Review (MOR) process at the agency, coordinating meetings and ensuring deliverables are completed.

The Training and Development Consultant is also responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the new employee orientation and onboarding for the agency. This role will support employee engagement efforts, assess employee learning needs, develop training materials, and evaluate the impact of development programs on employee performance.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Proven experience coordinating meetings, trainings, and engagement programs for a large, geographically diverse organization

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with leadership and staff, ensuring alignment of efforts with organizational objectives and effective outcomes

3. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities

4. Knowledge of communication techniques, training methods, instructional design, and program development

5. Knowledge of workforce development and planning processes

Additional Considerations

* This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the Public Health infrastructure Grant for a two-year period ending 11/30/2027.
