Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a part-time Program Support Technician to research, evaluate, and update CDL and driver history records to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations. The role focuses on maintaining the accuracy of driver history records and assisting in resolving duplicate pointers through the State Pointer Exchange Services (SPEXS) system, helping Virginia remain compliant with REAL ID requirements.

Responsibilities Include:
• Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of driver history records by reviewing, evaluating, and updating data in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Collaborating with internal teams, customers, and federal agencies to ensure compliance with CDL and REAL ID regulations
• Monitoring compliance with federal and state regulations, conducting quality control checks and resolving discrepancies

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to interpret complex documents, including federal and state regulations
• Skilled in identifying and resolving record discrepancies for regulatory compliance
• Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) for data management and reporting
• Experience in customer service and complex issue resolution
• Demonstrated ability in high-volume data entry, ensuring data accuracy and regulatory compliance

Additional Considerations

• Familiarity with DMV systems (e.g., OnBase, CSS, CDLIS, SPEXS)
• Experience in regulatory or public service environments with CDL management, driver history, or licensing
• Familiarity with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), REAL ID, and federal agency collaboration (e.g., FMCSA) to meet regulatory standards
