Job Duties

The Classification and Compensation Manager, within the Office of Human Resources of the Virginia Department of Health, is responsible for overseeing and managing the development, implementation, and administration of the agency’s classification and compensation programs. The Classification and Compensation Manager will ensure that the agency’s pay structures and classification systems are competitive, equitable, and aligned with state and federal policies and laws. This position requires a strong understanding of state compensation policies, job analysis and job classification structure, data analysis and market trends, and applicable state and federal laws.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in managing large, complex classification and compensation programs, preferably in a government or public sector environment.
• Experience interpreting and applying state and federal laws for compensation and classification functions.
• Advanced knowledge of compensation strategies, job evaluation methods, and job classification structures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting complex information to senior management and stakeholders.
• Proficient with HRIS systems, salary survey tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a focus on team development and collaboration.

Additional Considerations

• Certification from a recognized professional organization (e.g., Certified Compensation Professional - CCP).
• Experience working in a state government or public sector agency.
